What does the Heart Rate Zone Calculator do?
Heart-rate zones organize exercise intensity into ranges. Age-based maximum heart rate is a population estimate and can differ substantially from an individual's measured maximum.

The Tanaka equation estimates HRmax. Zone boundaries are calculated directly from HRmax or from heart-rate reserve when resting heart rate is supplied.
Worked calculation example
At age 40, estimated HRmax is 180 bpm. A 60–70% HRmax zone is about 108–126 bpm.
The live calculator retains greater internal precision and rounds only when presenting the result.
